Description

The Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) press conference on the recent findings of a report conducted jointly with the Urban Institute on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) homeownership and wealth trajectory. The press conference will take place at the University of California San Diego La Jolla, Seventh Tower West Building 1, 15th floor located at 10176 Scholars Drive N. on January 27, 2026 at 10am PST.

AANHPIs are the fastest growing ethnic group in the United States. Yet due to limited data and especially data disaggregated data on AANHPIs, this growing US population has been mostly invisible from both policy and broader. This report seeks to view homeownership through the lens of AANHPIs including a life-cycle of wealth building and each of their structural barriers. The report points to policy implications that span this full trajectory of wealth cycle: expanding equitable access to homeownership, enabling safe and sustainable use of housing wealth, strengthening non-housing asset resilience, and facilitating effective wealth transfer through accessible succession planning. Addressing these interconnected barriers is essential to ensuring that homeownership-anchored wealth can deliver durable economic security and intergenerational mobility for AANHPI households.
